Rocky Horror Mashups For a Rainy Weekend

This is a post for all of you who are expriencing a dark and stormy weekend, with heavy, black and pendulous storm clouds…

No film speaks to the heart of a mashup fan like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  It isn’t just a movie, it’s a culture, based around people adding to the film in fun and creative ways.  Surprisingly, there aren’t that many Rocky Horror mashups online, but if you dig a bit you can find some real gems.  For example…

This is Smash, mashing up Sweet Transvestite from the Rocky Horror Picture Show with Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl?  I found it on the Rock Mashups 1 Soundcloud page.

Touch-a Touch Me, TSA Security, by The Kinsey Sicks
Touch Me parody
(I know it’s not a mashup, but it’s too fabulous to not include here)

Get Ur Time Warp On, by Jaxy Jones
The Time Warp vs Missy Elliot’s Get Your Freak On

Sweet Transvestite Face, by Bootie Rio
The Time Warp vs Lady Gaga’s Poker Face
(I admit, it’s not the best mashup in the world, but it belongs on the list)

The Thriller Warp, by corporation
The Time Warp vs Vincent Price and Michael Jackson

Sweet Transvestite by Glee
I really shouldn’t include this in a list of mashups, but I’m including it to make a point.  As you can probably deduce from the above examples, this doesn’t qualify as a mashup or even a parody.  Serious mashup fans bitch about Glee all the time, not because they don’t enjoy it.  Some do, some don’t.  Whether they like Glee or not is irrelevant.  Most of us find it obnoxious because people keep saying, “OMG, you’re into mashups?  That’s so cool!  Did you see the Glee episode with some stupid song in it?  Wasn’t that a great mashup?”  No, it wasn’t a great mashup.  It wasn’t a mashup at all.  The mashup community is the most open minded, accepting community of fans and artists as you’re likely to come across, but at a certain point even the nicest people just snap.  That’s why I’m including this.  It’s a PSA to show you that Glee does not make mashups.  Period.  They perform covers and sometimes they do medleys*, but they don’t mash up.

*The medley vs mashup debate is a bigger discussion that I’ll tackle later, in it’s own post.
